Nature School Dunedin (NSD) is an independent charitable organisation with its own Board of Trustees. We offer our programme as a one day school. Your child will stay enrolled in their foundation school but can be released for the day to attend NSD (Education and Training Act 2020 sections 52 and 53). The programme is offered to children in years 4,5 and 6 each school term. The cost is $82.00 inc. GST per child per day. A full term commitment is required unless we offer a half term enrolment. Please see our full terms and conditions for full information.
To ensure your child has enough time to enjoy following up on their projects and being immersed in the philosophy of NSD a full term commitment is required. Please see our Terms and Conditions.
The term dates for 2023 are as follows but we reserve the right to make changes as required.
Term 1 is every Thursday and Friday starting Thursday the 2nd February for 10 weeks
except the Friday group which will be 9 weeks - Easter holiday.
Term 2 is every Thursday and Friday starting Thursday the 27th April for 10 weeks.
Term 3 is every Thursday and Friday starting Thursday the 20th July for 10 weeks.
Term 4 is every Thursday and Friday starting Thursday the 12th October for 9 weeks.
When you enrol we will be in touch to arrange a designated pick up and drop off point.
We understand that sometimes your child may not be able to attend NSD. We may also deem it unsafe for a session to go ahead, for example because of extreme weather. We have a cancellation policy in place to guide you through eventualities that may occur.
When children are enrolled, they become part of an exciting one-day school with nature as their classroom. On arrival, children gather to orientate and connect with the environment and then move through a programme of exploration, discovery, engagement and reflection. Through each of these learning opportunities, children are immersed in activities building confidence, independence and self-discovery.
We operate a shuttle to transport your child safely to and from our Nature school sites.
Children get the most out of experiences when they feel safe, secure and certain that their needs are being met. The well-being and safety of all NSD learners guides all our practises and activity based learning.
